Villarreal vs Atletico Madrid 19/03/18

19 March 2018

After a 2-0 victory over Las Palmas, Villarreal will have a difficult task to stop in-form Atletico Madrid side who demolished Lokomotiv Moscow by five goals to one in the Europa League second leg tie. Although the Yellow Submarine have no chance of reaching the Champions League football, they are looking to secure the Europa League promotion as they are currently in the sixth place with just one point lead over Girona to whom they’ve lost 2-0 at home two weeks ago. Villarreal have won three out of their previous five home matches, keeping a clean sheet just once, while the Red-and-Whites managed to win three times in a row away from the Wanda Metropolitano before losing to Barcelona at Camp Nou.
The home team is decimated by injuries of Bruno Soriano, Andres Fernandez, Rúben Semedo, Jaume Costa, Javi Fuego, and Denis Cheryshev although Javier Calleja hopes Fuego could be fit after spraining his right ankle. Diego Simeone doesn’t have Stefan Savic, Diego Costa, and Kevin Gameiro at his disposal, as all are struggling with injuries; while Jan Oblak could recover from a slight injury he picked up on the training ground. Filipe Luiz has suffered a knock against Lokomotiv Moscow and should skip the match.
