Newcastle vs Burnley 01/02/2018

01 February 2018

The promising start Burnley made is now a distant memory as they have now gone seven EPL games without a win. In that time frame, Newcastle have won twice as they slowly stave off those relegation fears.

However, that brace of wins were won away from St James’ Park. Newcastle are now winless in seven EPL home games, five of them defeats. It’s the Magpies’ longest run without a victory in the competition since April 2009.

Burnley won October’s reverse fixture 1-0, thanks to a Jeff Hendrick goal. They could well complete a top-flight league double against the Northern club for the first time in 57 years!
Newcastle’s new loanee Kenedy is set to make his debut, while there will be recalls for DeAndre Yedlin, Paul Dummett and Mo Diame. The trio was rested for Newcastle’s poor 3-0 FA Cup defeat at Chelsea last weekend.

As for Burnley, defender James Tarkowski is a doubt with a groin injury and Steven Defour is nursing a knee problem. Chris Wood and Stephen Ward are nearing a return but are unlikely to be risked, while Aaron Lennon may make his debut after signing from Everton.
