Southampton vs Manchester City 13/05/18

13 May 2018

It’s hard that anyone was expecting Southampton will fight tooth and nail to avoid relegation until the last game of the season, but the Saints disastrous Premier League campaign could’ve ended in the worst possible manner if they haven’t somehow managed to pull off a narrow 1-0 victory over Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium last weekend. Now, Mark Hughes’ team are going to face the Premier League champions, Manchester City, at the St Mary’s Stadium, hoping for a draw that will mathematically secure them a spot in the English top flight for the next season independently of the outcome of the game between Stoke and Swansea. After eight consecutive EPL matches without a victory, Southampton raised their game when it counted the most, winning two out of last three league games, which saw them escaping the relegation zone by three points. On the other hand, the Citizens have fully deserved the title after dominating the league from the start, and in case they won against the Saints, it would see them finishing the season with 100 points.

Steven Davis has suffered an Achilles tendon injury earlier this month and will have to watch the game from the stands. As for the visitors, only Sergio Agüero won’t be at Guardiola’s disposal for the trip to Hampshire.
