Marseille vs Atletico Madrid 17/05/18

17 May 2018

After a quite exhausting two games against Arsenal, in which they’ve shown great team spirit and sacrifice, Atletico Madrid will face off Marseille in the Europa League final, which will be their fourth European final in the last eight years. The match will take place at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais, so the Phocaeans will practically play at home soil. Los Colchoneros have finished second in La Liga right behind Barcelona, and winning the Europa League is their only chance to avoid another trophyless season, but looking at Marseille performance over a previous couple of months, this is going to be a tough encounter. Rudi Garcia’s team currently trail Lyon and Monaco by two points in the Ligue 1, and they are hoping to secure Champions League football for the next year through the Europa League. Meanwhile, Diego Simeone’s side are going through a difficult time, as they’ve failed to win in six out of their last ten matches in all competitions. Additionally, amid the constant rumors of Antoine Griezmann’s transfer to Barcelona this summer, Atletico Madrid seem struggling in finding the right rhythm ahead of the big final.

Konstantinos Mitroglou and Rolando have both suffered severe injuries that will see them skipping the game for the French side. On the other hand, Vitolo has sustained a muscle injury and won’t be at Simeone’s disposal.
