Chile vs Honduras 21/11/18

21 November 2018

Chile and Honduras are set for a face-to-face friendly meeting at the Estadio Municipal German Becker in Temuco, as the hosts desperately hope to start a winning cycle after having a terrible year.

Not only La Roja failed to qualify for the World Cup finals, but they’ve struggled to perform at the high level for the majority of 2018. Reinaldo Rueda’s players have featured in nine international friendlies this year, managing to achieve just three triumphs, while playing out three draws and suffering three defeats in the process. A lack of consistency and constant rotations have seen Chile securing only one victory in the past five encounters. Apart from a 1-0 win over Mexico, the South American giants have played out two draws with Poland and South Korea, while losing to Peru and Costa Rica. Moreover, they’ve allowed a minimum of two goals on three occasions in the last five games, having kept a clean sheet twice in the process.

On the other hand, Los Catrachos are not having the best of times, considering they’ve only wrapped up one triumph in the previous six matches. Before a scrappy 1-0 win over Panama a few days ago, La Bicolor played out a 1-1 draw with UAE which has brought their 3-game losing streak to an end. In the two remaining friendlies in 2018, Jorge Jimenez’s players were outplayed by South Korea and El Salvador, having failed to find the back of the net in the process. Moreover, Honduras lost 3-1 to Australia in the inter-confederation play-offs in November 2017, which had prevented them from taking place at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
