Paris Saint-Germain vs Rennes 28/01/19

28 January 2019

This weekend’s Ligue 1 action concludes at Parc des Princes as the undisputed Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain go head-to-head with a decent Rennes side.

With a record of 17 wins and two draws after the opening 19 league fixtures, the reigning holders are comfortably cruising towards second successive Ligue 1 title. Thomas Tuchel’s men have been ruthless at Parc des Princes this term, securing a maximum of 30 points after ten home outings. Their tally of 37 goals scored at home is a league high, while at the same time they boast the best defensive record of just three goals conceded so far. The Parisians have not only taken the lead in nine of ten L1 home clashes, but they’ve been on the front foot at the halftime break on seven occasions in the process. A frightening fact for the visitors should be that PSG come into this meeting after hammering Guingamp 9-0 at this venue back last weekend.

On the other hand, the visitors have gone from four straight league wins to two consecutive matches without a triumph (D1, L1). However, Rennes have won four of their last six road meetings in all competitions (W4, D1, L1), keeping a clean sheet in each victory. Still, Les Rouges et Noirs have scored just two goals in their last three L1 clashes and will have to step up their game if looking to penetrate PSG’s strong defensive line. But, it won’t be easy for the hosts to break down Rennes stubborn backline neither. Julien Stephan’s defenders have managed to keep a clean sheet seven times on their last 11 road trips across all competitions.
