Switzerland vs Denmark 27/03/19

27 March 2019

Denmark’s (FIFA Ranking: #10) Euro 2020 qualifying gets underway as they travel to Basel to take on Switzerland (#12) at the St. Jakob-Park.

The hosts have started their qualifying journey with a comfortable 2-0 road win over Georgia, which was their third straight competitive triumph. The Nati have finished top of their respective UEFA Nations League group in front of Belgium thanks to a stunning 5-2 home victory over Eden Hazard and Co. Interestingly, Vladimir Petkovic’s men are yet to play out a draw after exiting the World Cup having won four of their previous seven games since returning from Russia (W4, L3). All four of Swiss’ win in that period have seen them score 2+ match goals while they’ve failed to hit the net in two of three defeats along the way. Switzerland have racked up an impressive nine-game home unbeaten streak in competitive outings (W7, D2), scoring over 1.5 goals per match seven times during the run.

On the other hand, the visitors come into this meeting off the back of a six-game unbeaten run (W3, D3) although they’ve failed to clinch victory in both of their previous outings (D2). Prolific in the final third and stubborn at the back, Åge Hareide’s men have bagged 2+ match goals in four of their last six games, preserving a clean slate four times in the process. Still, only four of Denmark’s seven games in the post-World Cup period have provided over 2.5 goals, with just two of them producing goals on both ends. A potential problem for the Danish Dynamites could be their away form that has seen them pull off one triumph on their last seven road trips (W1, D3, L3).
