Inter Milan vs Empoli 27/05/19

27 May 2019

The Champions League promotion fighters and the Serie A relegation battlers go head-to-head at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, as Inter Milan take on Empoli.

The hosts need to wrap up three points to pave the way to the Champions League group stage, as they reside one point above fifth-placed AC Milan ahead of the final game of the season. Inter’s seven-game SA unbeaten run (W3, D4) has been brought to a halt, with Napoli sweeping the Nerazzurri aside with a commanding 4-1 win last time out. It was the first time since mid-March that the Milanese giants allowed over 1.5 goals per match, and it was also the fifth of their last seven league games that they’ve scored one goal or less. Stadio San Siro has been a venue of no entertainment lately, with all seven of Inter’s previous home games across all competitions featuring under 2.5 goals.

Meanwhile, the visitors’ sudden rise has seen them put together three straight SA triumphs, as they now claim their stakes on extending the top-flight status for at least one more season. Sitting one point clear of 18th-placed Genoa, they can’t make calculations in this game, but their disastrous away form can be a major influence here. A 2-1 win over Sampdoria on their last road trip has been Empoli’s first SA road triumph this campaign (W1, D5, L12), as the Blues remain the worst traveling side in the Italian top tier. Furthermore, no team has shipped more away goals than Empoli (38) this term, with Aurelio Andreazzoli’s players keeping only two clean sheets on 18 SA road trips so far.
