Colombia vs Qatar 20/06/19

20 June 2019

Colombia and Qatar go head-to-head at the Estádio do Morumbi in Sao Paulo for their second game in Group B.

Encouraged by outstanding performance and a comfortable 2-0 triumph over Argentina in the first round, the Colombians will now look to post their fourth straight victory and probably seal their place in the knockout stage. Notably, all three of Colombia’s previous wins have seen them score over 1.5 match goals and prevent their rivals from scoring. What’s more, Los Cafeteros have now secured seven triumphs in nine outings over the past ten months (W7, D1, L1), six of which have seen them net 2+ match goals. Also, Carlos Queiroz’s side has been an entertaining one to watch in the post-World Cup period, with six of their nine games across that sequence producing over 2.5 goals, although ‘just’ four of them have witnessed goals at both ends.

On the other hand, Qatar’s debut at Copa America has seen them produce a stunning second-half comeback against Paraguay to earn a 2-2 draw and keep their chances of qualifying for the knockout stage alive. The Maroons have been impressive in 2019, wrapping up the Asian Cup title by pulling of seven win in as many games at the competition. Outstandingly, Félix Sánchez Bas’ men have conceded the only goal at the tournament in a 3-1 win over Japan in the final. However, they have struggled to hold on to that form in their only warm-up game ahead of Copa America, suffering a 2-0 loss to Brazil.
