Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid 21/07/19

21 July 2019

The 2019 International Champions Cup showdown between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid at the NRG Stadium will see a ‘real clash of titans’ entertaining the fans in Houston.

Los Blancos come off better when the two sides met at this tournament in 2016, securing a narrow 1-0 victory. Moreover, La Liga giants have dumped the Bavarians out of the Champions League three times for the past five years.

The reigning Bundesliga holders have started the tournament off on the wrong foot, having suffered a 2-1 loss to Arsenal. It was Bayern’s third friendly this summer (W1, D1, L1), with all of those matches seeing both teams score. Failure against the Premier League outfit has brought the Reds’ 14-game unbeaten run to a halt (W10, D4). Interestingly, ten of Bayern’s wins in that span have seen them score three or more goals, keeping a clean sheet only four times though.

Meanwhile, it will be Real Madrid’s first game this summer, with Zinedine Zidane desperately hoping to see his side bouncing back after a disastrous 2018-19 campaign. A run of poor form has seen Los Blancos suffer three defeats in their last five outings (W1, D1, L3), with Zidane’s men failing to find the net in two of those failures. Also, just two of those matches have produced over 2.5 goals and saw both teams score. But, Real’s reinforced roster will see Eden Hazard and Luka Jovic among others playing their first game in the white jersey.
