Valencia vs Leganes 22/09/19

22 September 2019

Fresh from a 1-0 away win over Chelsea in the Europa League, Valencia welcome Leganes to the Estadio de Mestalla looking to return to the winning ways in La Liga (LL).

The hosts have already suffered two LL defeats this term (W1, D1, L2), including the humiliating 5-2 one over Barcelona on the road last time out. Valencia’s only league points so far have arrived at home, with the Bats beating the newly-promoted Mallorca 2-0 after being held to a 1-1 draw to Real Sociedad. Very comfortable at home, the Oranges have won 6 of 12 LL home outings since the turn of the year (W6, D5, L1), with five of those triumphs coming by a margin of multiple goals. Moreover, Marcelino Garcia Toral’s men have outplayed Leganes in two of three top-flight H2Hs here (W2, D1), both times to nil.

Meanwhile, rock-bottom visitors are the only side in the Spanish top tier that is yet to pick up a single point this term (L4). They have not only lost all of their four LL games so far, but the ‘Cucumber Growers’ have netted only one goal across those matches – less than any other team in La Liga. Curiously, Mauricio Pellegrino’s men have managed to take a 0-0 stalemate into the halftime on three occasions already only to see themselves go down by a narrow one-goal margin in the second half. Facing Valencia in this kind of form makes it almost impossible for Leganes to hope for any points, as they’ve failed to beat the Bats in all of their eight competitive H2Hs (D2, L6).
