Bayern Munich vs Bayer Leverkusen

Allianz Arena forms the backdrop for a mouth-watering Bundesliga clash between the underperforming duo Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen.

September’s international break might have come to Julian Nagelsmann’s rescue after Bayern Munich went winless in four consecutive Bundesliga matches for the first time since 2002 (D3, L1). Munich’s sub-par 1-0 defeat away to Augsburg on the eve of the international break marked their first scoring blank in Germany’s top flight after 87 straight scoring league matches. The crisis is deep and genuine at the Allianz Arena, sparking rumors of Thomas Tuchel’s potential arrival as he’s available on the market after cutting ties with Chelsea. Amid the club’s worst seven-game Bundesliga start in 12 years, Nagelsmann will fall back on Bayern’s imperious 32-game scoring record in home Bundesliga clashes against Leverkusen. But there’s a reason for pessimism as the ‘Bavarians’ have only won once in their last three home league H2Hs (D1, L1).

Things are not looking any better from Bayer Leverkusen’s point of view as ‘Die Werkself’ entered the international break tied with 17th-placed Wolfsburg on five points. Leverkusen’s worst Bundesliga start in over a decade has seen Gerardo Seoane’s lads pick up just one win from the opening seven rounds (D2, L4). It seems a 3-0 thumping of Mainz in late August was just a one-off, with the visitors going winless in their three subsequent Bundesliga matches (D2, L1). They have at least been fun to watch, with five of their last six league outings featuring over 2.5 total goals, highlighting the potential for a ‘goal-friendly’ showdown in Munich. Coming into this fixture, Leverkusen drew 1-1 at home to promoted Werder Bremen, which was the case in their most recent top-flight visit to the Allianz Arena.
