Hertha BSC vs Borussia Dortmund 30/11/19

30 November 2019

Rocked by a 3-1 away loss to Barcelona in the Champions League, Borussia Dortmund return to the Bundesliga (BL) this weekend as they travel to the Olympiastadion to take on Hertha BSC.

The hosts enter this round frantically looking over their shoulders as they sit level on points with relegation-threatened Fortuna Dusseldorf following a disastrous run of form. Die Alte Dame have lost all four of their previous BL fixtures, conceding precisely four goals per match in the last two. It’s been ‘all or nothing’ for Hertha at home so far this season (W2, L3), with all three of their home defeats seeing them allow at least three goals per match. Things are unlikely to change here, given that they take on a side they’ve lost two in two of their previous four top-flight home H2Hs (W1, D1, L2), conceding precisely three goals in both of those failures. Still, the Olympiastadion has been a venue of entertainment this season, as all five of Hertha’s BL games at this venue featured three or more goals, with the last four seeing both teams score too.

Meanwhile, the visitors are not enjoying the best of times, having secured just one win in their last four BL outings (W1, D2, L1). Both of those results (win/loss) in that period have seen the winners on the day score at least three goals and keep a clean sheet. One of the main reasons the BVB currently trail league toppers Borussia Monchengladbach by five points is their dreadful away record (W1, D3, L2). In fact, just six of Dortmund’s 20 BL points have come on the road, while only eight of their total 26 BL goals scored arrived away from home (30.76%). After playing out two identical 2-2 away draws, Lucien Favre’s men have drawn a blank in two of their last BL road trips (D1, L1), extending their winless BL away streak to five games.
