Paris Saint-Germain vs Dijon 01/03/20

1 March 2020

The perennial Ligue 1 (L1) champions Paris Saint-Germain welcome the relegation fighters Dijon to the Parc des Princes, looking to stretch their winning home run to four games.

Three of PSG’s previous L1 home triumphs each saw them score at least two first-half goals and over 3.5 in total, although the last two witnessed them concede two or more. Thomas Tuchel’s men have already racked up 40 league home goals (league-high), with precisely half of them coming in the first half. Unsurprisingly, PSG have opened the scoring in 77% (ten) of their 13 L1 home matches so far this season. But, even if they ship the opening goal, it may not be the last – they’ve won two of three L1 home games in which they’ve allowed the first goal (L1). However, such a scenario is unlikely to happen here, considering the Parisians have won all five of their previous competitive home H2Hs without conceding a single goal. In fact, all of those wins saw PSG win both halves to nil, with four seeing them score over 1.5 first-half goals.

As for the visitors, they travel to Paris on a run of three successive league games without a loss (D3), with each seeing Dijon pegged back within 20 minutes after scoring the opener. Although they defeated PSG 2-1 at home in the reverse fixture, Les Moutardes were dismantled 6-1 at the same venue when the two sides faced off in the cup game a fortnight ago. What’s more, Dijon have lost ten of their 11 previous official H2Hs (W1), with the last five all yielding a margin of at least three goals. Another disappointing outcome for the traveling fans is a near-certainty as Stéphane Jobard’s players have suffered nine defeats in 13 L1 road trips so far this season (W1, D3), drawing a blank eight times along the way.
