Werder Bremen vs Eintracht Frankfurt 04/06/20

04 June 2020

The two struggling Bundesliga (BL) outfits go head-to-head at the Weserstadion as Werder Bremen take on Eintracht Frankfurt. Although the visitors failed to secure a single triumph in their last four top-flight H2Hs (D2, L2), each of those matches has overseen a lot of action. Indeed, all four have seen over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet.

The hosts have overseen a slight upturn in results recently, going from five consecutive league matches without a win (D1, L4) to three straight games without a loss (W2, D1). Notably, five of their six results (win/loss) during that eight-game sequence have seen the winner on the day keep a clean sheet. The outcome of this encounter will heavily depend on whether ‘Die Werderaner’ can open the scoring or not. In fact, Florian Kohfeldt’s side lost all nine of their BL home matches in which they’ve conceded the first goal. However, Werder’s disastrous attacking output could throw a spanner in the works here, as they remain the only German team yet to reach double digits at home having notched up just nine goals in 13 BL home fixtures so far.

As for the visitors, they’ve brought a frustrating six-game winless league run to a halt with a 2-1 away win over Wolfsburg last time out (D1, L5) to extend their lead on relegation-threatened Fortuna Dusseldorf to five points. Even though ‘Die Adler’ have been going through a rough time, they’ve been an exciting team to watch lately, with each of their last eight top-flight fixtures producing over 2.5 goals. In turn, all but one of Frankfurt’s six BL away games since the turn of the year have produced at least three goals and featured at least one goal in both halves of play. But, particularly ponderous in attack in the opening 45 minutes of play, Frankfurt have managed just 20% (3) of their 15 BL away goals scored before the halftime break.
