Atletico Madrid vs Real Valladolid 21/06/20

21 June 2020

After dismantling Osasuna 5-0 at home last time out, Atletico Madrid welcome Real Valladolid to the Wanda Metropolitano, looking to stretch their La Liga (LL) unbeaten run to eight games (W3, D4).

The Wanda Metropolitano has been somewhat a fortress this season, as Atletico suffered only one defeat in 14 LL matches held at this venue (W8, D5). Despite enjoying a landslide win in their last league fixture, Los Colchoneros have seen only four of their 14 LL home matches this term yield a final margin of over 1.5 goals (28.57%). Curiously, although the majority (64.29%) of Atletico’s league home games this season have featured under 2.5 total goals, nine have produced at least one goal before the halftime. That’s mainly thanks to the fact that Diego Simeone’s men shipped seven of their nine LL home goals conceded before the break (77.78%). Nonetheless, Atletico remain big pre-match favorites after winning each of their last four top-flight home H2H meetings with Valladolid.

Meanwhile, the visitors seem to have managed to turn their fortunes around after the coronavirus break, going from back-to-back LL losses to two consecutive matches without a loss (W1, D1). Even though they’ve spent the majority of the season sitting in the bottom half of the table, Los Pucelanos know how to put up a fight. Indeed, all but one of their 11 league matches since the calendar flipped have ended separating the sides by under 1.5 goals (W3, D4, L4). But, Sergio González’s players have encountered massive problems on the road, especially in the first half. They remain the second joint-lowest first-half away scorers in the league after netting only three goals before the break in 15 LL trips.
