Hertha BSC vs Bayer Leverkusen 20/06/20

20 June 2020

Bayer Leverkusen travel to the Olympiastadion to take on Hertha BSC in a must-win Bundesliga (BL) clash.

The hosts have been struggling to find their footing lately, suffering three consecutive league defeats ahead of this match, with the last two both featuring over 2.5 goals and both teams scoring. Additionally, Bruno Labbadia’s men have endured an underwhelming home campaign in 2020, picking up only two victories in eight BL home fixtures since the turn of the year (D2, L4). Curiously, four of those six results (win/loss) during that period saw the winner on the day score over 1.5 goals and keep a blank sheet. Hertha’s hopes of sealing three points here will depend on whether or not they can find the opening goal. Indeed, ‘Die Alte Dame’ lost six of eight BL home games in which they’ve conceded the opener (W1, D1).

Meanwhile, the visitors, who enter this round unbeaten in two successive BL fixtures (W1, D1), desperately need a victory to bolster their chances of securing the Champions League qualification for the next season. With just two matches left to go, ‘Die Werkself’ hold a single-point lead over fifth-placed Borussia Monchengladbach. Peter Bosz can rely on his team’s impressive away form (W4, D2), as well as the fact that Leverkusen won two of their last three top-flight trips to Hertha (L1). What’s more, free-scoring Leverkusen have found the net in nine consecutive BL away matches ahead of this trip, notching up over 1.5 goals on four of those occasions, though.
