Napoli vs Lazio 02/08/20

02 August 2020

Napoli and Lazio go head-to-head at the Stadio San Paolo in a massive Serie A showdown this weekend, as the traveling side look to finish the season by posting back-to-back top-flight wins over bitter rivals for the first time since 1997.

The hosts have endured mixed fortunes in their last four Serie A outings (W2, L2), with each of those results (wins/losses) witnessing the winner on the day score precisely once in both halves. Yet, at home in Serie A, the ‘Partenopei’ are enjoying a run of six games without a loss despite keeping a clean sheet only once (W5, D1). In fact, free-scoring Napoli have netted over 1.5 goals in eight consecutive Serie A home matches, finding the net in both halves on five of those occasions. They’ve also avoided defeat in four of their last top-flight H2Hs held in Naples (W3, D1), managing an average of 3 goals across those clashes.

The visitors, on the other hand, have put together three league triumphs heading into the final round despite conceding the opening goal in two of those games. Notably, seven of Lazio’s ten Serie A results since the restart saw the winner on the day come from behind to pick up three points (W5, L5)! Things get even more bizarre, given that six of their last nine league results on the road witnessed a complete turnaround (W6, L3). Lazio’s strong first-half performances away from home should provide some comfort to Simone Inzaghi, though, considering his side found themselves on the back foot at the break in just three of 18 Serie A trips this season (HT: W5, D10, L3).
