Kilmarnock vs Dundee United 29/08/20

29 August 2020

Kilmarnock will be looking to bring a three-game winless run versus Dundee United in the Premiership to a halt (D1, L2) when the two sides meet at Rugby Park this weekend.

The hosts have started the new league campaign with a whimper rather than a bang (D2, L3), with four of their opening five Premiership games seeing both teams score. A genuine lack of defensive quality has seen Kilmarnock concede over 1.5 goals on four of those occasions. They finished the last season pretty much on the same note, losing all but one of the final four top-flight fixtures (D1), three of which saw them allow two or more goals too. Rugby Park has been a venue of entertainment this calendar year, though, as seven of Kilmarnock’s nine competitive matches here have featured over 2.5 goals, with the last eight seeing both teams on the scoresheet.

Meanwhile, the visitors have endured mixed fortunes at the beginning of the 2020/21 Premiership campaign (W2, D1, L2). United’s opening games have been notably tight, as four have contained under 2.5 goals, with three producing the identical 1-0 scoreline (W1, L2). Interestingly, though, both of Dundee’s top-flight wins this season arrived away from home, with each producing a single-goal margin and seeing the teams go into the half-time break on level terms. But, the ‘Terrors’ have failed to win in three of their last four top-flight trips to Kilmarnock (D1, L2), although it’s worth noting that they last met in such match-up in 2016.
