Arsenal vs Liverpool 29/08/20
29 August 2020
Arsenal battled past Chelsea in the FA Cup final to set up a mouth-watering Community Shield showdown against Liverpool at Wembley Stadium.
Indeed, a 2-1 win over Chelsea in the cup final means the Gunners have managed to beat three of the top-four Premier League sides in a one-month span, having also outscored Manchester City and Liverpool. Curiously, two of those three clashes have seen the London outfit come from behind to pick up a victory. Winners in eight of their last 11 competitive fixtures (D1, L2), Mikel Arteta’s men have been impressive in the early stages, finding the net at least once before the half-time whistle on ten of those occasions. It will be Arsenal’s eighth appearance in the Community Shield in the 21st century, with the Londoners wrapping up the prize in five of their previous seven attempts to lift the trophy, including the last three.
Meanwhile, Liverpool, who have 15 Community Shield title to their name so far, will battle for the trophy for the fifth time since the turn of the new millennium (W2, L2). The ‘Reds’ sealed their place at Wembley after winning their first Premier League title in 30 years in an emphatic fashion. The English juggernaut won 99 points in the recently concluded league campaign, securing the silverware with seven games to spare. But, Jurgen Klopp’s men had lost momentum down the final stretch of the last season, managing just four wins in their previous seven competitive matches (D1, L2). Curiously, though, five of those six results (wins/losses) have yielded a full-time margin of over 1.5 goals, with four seeing the winner on the day score at least three goals.
