Angers vs Bordeaux 30/08/20

30 August 2020

Angers welcome Bordeaux to the Stade Raymond-Kopa, seeking to post a third consecutive win in their Ligue 1 H2Hs.

A narrow 1-0 away win over Dijon on the opening matchday of the season pretty much mirrored the way Angers finished the last league campaign. Indeed, the hosts finished 2019/20 with three victories in a row, all of which yielded a blank sheet, with two producing the identical 1-0 scoreline. By extension, six of Angers’ seven Ligue 1 results (wins/losses) this calendar year have seen the winner on the day keep a clean sheet, with all featuring under 2.5 goals. Curiously, though, none of their four top-flight home matches in 2020 has ended in a draw (W2, L2). Three of those four results have seen the winner on the day score at least once in the second half and featured a full-time margin of over 1.5 goals.

Meanwhile, a goalless home draw with Nantes in the curtain-raiser brought Bordeaux’s winless Ligue 1 run to five, last season included (D4, L1). ‘Les Girondins’ have been far from impressive in the league this calendar year, picking up just two wins from ten fixtures (D6, L2). Interestingly, seven of those games saw both teams score, which has also been the case in all seven of their last competitive trips to Angers. Returning to winning ways will be rather daunting for Bordeaux, though, as they take on a side they’ve failed to beat in four of their previous five top-flight visits (D3, L1).
