Lens vs PSG 11/09/20

11 September 2020

Paris Saint-Germain’s Ligue 1 campaign gets underway this week, as they head to the Stade Bollaert-Delelis to take on newly-promoted Lens.

Despite taking an early lead in their first top-flight fixture since gaining promotion, Lens lost 2-1 to Nice on the road. As a result, three of their last four Ligue 1 losses have now seen ‘Sang et Or’ score the opening goal inside the first 30 minutes of play, with the previous three all witnessing Lens lose the second half via the same 1-0 scoreline. PSG’s visit may stir some painful memories, too. Indeed, Lens have failed to beat their visitors in all nine of their previous top-flight H2Hs (D4, L5), with the last four such defeats yielding a full-time margin of over 1.5 goals. Also, Franck Haise has to be warry of the fact that his men have netted under 1.5 goals in all five of their competitive home games this calendar year.

Meanwhile, the visitors go into this clash on the back of a 1-0 loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League final. It now means that four of PSG’s last five competitive fixtures have ended separating the sides by under 1.5 goals (W3, D1, L1). Notably, the ‘Parisians’ boast an almost perfect Ligue 1 record on the road this calendar year (W3, D1), having netted an average of 3.0 goals across four league trips. In fact, the rampant PSG side was the only one in the French top-flight to smash a 30-goal barrier away from home last season, managing an intimidating average of 2.38 goals scored per Ligue 1 trip.
