Leicester City vs Cardiff City 29/12/18

29 December 2018

Encouraged by an outstanding 2-1 home triumph over Manchester City in midweek’s Premier League clash, Leicester City will welcome Cardiff City to the King Power Stadium looking to secure their third consecutive league triumph for the first time this season.

In addition to a win over the reigning holders, the Foxes have clinched another impressive victory, beating Chelsea 1-0 at Stamford Bridge last weekend. A promising spell has seen Claude Puel’s side breaking a three-game Premier League winless run (D1, L2), as it was also the second time this campaign Leicester pulled off back-to-back league wins. A potential worry for Claude Puel ahead of this meeting could be that his players have failed to score more than one goal per match 12 times in their last 14 outings in all competitions. Furthermore, Leicester’s problems in the final third have seen them scoring two goals per match two times in their previous eight competitive home games. A 44% of Leicester’s home encounters have produced under 2.5 goals, with just one out of their last five home matches producing more than two goals.

On the other hand, the visitors have lost two successive Premier League clashes before playing out a scoreless draw with Crystal Palace in midweek. The Bluebirds go in search of their elusive first road triumph this campaign (D2, L7), as they reside one of two teams along with Fulham that are yet to wrap up all three points away from home. What’s more, Neil Warnock’s men have suffered six consecutive road defeats prior to midweek’s encounter with the Glaziers, which was also the fifth time they’ve failed to hit the back of the net on the road this season. Their tally of five scored goals away from home is the Premier League’s lowest, with Cardiff scoring one goal or less in eight out of nine road meetings so far.
