Manchester United vs Burnley 30/01/19

30 January 2019

A rampant Manchester United side welcome the relegation fighters Burnley to Old Trafford looking to stretch their winning run to nine games across all competitions.

Having reduced the gap on fourth-placed Chelsea to just three points, the hosts now have the chance to burst into top four for the first time after a long period. The Red Devils are unstoppable since the arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, having racked up a six-game PL winning streak during which they’ve bagged 17 goals while conceding just four in the process. The 3-time Champions League winners have entered this fixture following an impressive 3-1 road triumph over Arsenal in the FA Cup, which was the seventh game under Solskjaer in which they’ve scored over 1.5 goals. The more important thing is that with the Norwegian in charge, Man Utd managed to fix their frustrating defensive problems, restricting their rivals to a maximum of one goal per match in eight successive outings.

On the other hand, the visitors sit 16th in the table, with a three-point lead over 18th-placed Cardiff City. The main reason the Clarets have propelled themselves from the relegation zone to the safe territory has been their impressive form in the past few weeks. A goalless draw with Watford on the road has brought Burnley’s three-game PL winning run to an end, but for the first time this season, Sean Dyche’s men managed to put four games without a failure together. However, Burnley’s road form is certainly something that worries Dyche, considering his team lost nine of 14 competitive away clashes this term, securing just two wins in the process (W2, D3, L9). Moreover, their defensive frailties have seen them concede 22 goals on 12 PL road trips this campaign, which is the second joint-worst record in the English top tier.
