Valencia vs Real Madrid 04/04/19

4 April 2019

Valencia and Real Madrid go head-to-head at the Estadio de Mestalla as the hosts look to halt a four-game winless run against the reigning Champions League holders (D1, L3).

Encouraged by a vital 1-0 road win over Sevilla, the Bats now hope to stretch their impressive unbeaten streak across all competitions to 18 games (W12, D5). Valencia’s last La Liga home loss dates back to early November (1-0 to Girona) after which the Oranges put together nine successive LL home outings without a failure (W4, D5), with three of those five draws ending with the same 1-1 scoreline. But, a potential worry for Marcelino Garcia Toral could be Valencia’s struggling in the final third that has seen them failed to find the net in three of their last four LL home clashes. Still, the hosts boast the league’s second-best defensive home record having conceded just eight goals in 15 LL home fixture, as they remain the only team in the Spanish top tier that is yet to allow over 1.5 goals at home for the entire campaign.

Meanwhile, Zinedine Zidane has clinched a pair of wins since returning to Real’s bench, with both of those triumphs arriving at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. There are plenty of reasons for optimism among the traveling fans, given the fact Los Blancos have won all five of their previous LL away fixtures although they’ve conceded a goal in each of those clashes. Los Merengues’ last LL road defeat dates back to late November (3-0 to Eibar), which was also the last time Zidane’s men have failed to find the back of the net in LL road game. On the other hand, Real’s defensive frailties have seen them allow at least one goal per match in just one of their previous 11 games across all competitions.

Interestingly all five of the previous H2H meetings between these two sides at this venue have produced goals on both ends, with each of them ending with a minimum of three goals.
