AC Milan vs Juventus
One of the most highly anticipated fixtures in the Serie A calendar takes place at Stadio San Siro this weekend as AC Milan take on arch-rivals Juventus.
Despite jaw-dropping victories against Inter Milan and Real Madrid, Paulo Fonseca’s future at AC Milan remains under heavy scrutiny, especially after a goal-glutted 3-3 draw at Cagliari left his side outside the European qualification spots during November’s international break. After Cagliari’s last-gasp equalizer denied them a third consecutive league win for the first time since April, Fonseca’s charges return to San Siro, where they slumped to a 2-0 defeat to Napoli in their last league outing, halting a three-match winning home league streak. Juventus’ upcoming visit cannot inspire much confidence either. Indeed, ‘I Rossoneri’ have failed to beat the Turin giants in three of their last four top-flight H2Hs on this ground (W1, D2, L2), failing to find the back of the net twice in that sequence.
On the other hand, Juventus entered the international break in high spirits after easing past crosstown rivals Torino 2-0 to uphold their unbeaten Serie A start under new boss Thiago Motta. Despite commencing this round as the only side in Italy’s top tier yet to lose a league fixture in 202425, a high volume of draws keeps ‘I Bianconeri’ two points adrift of leaders Napoli (W6, D6). However, Motta’s charges have traveled exceptionally well this term, racking up four clean sheets across their five away league matches (W3, D2), barring a memorable 4-4 draw at this stadium against Inter. It’s also worth noting that they’ve bagged 3+ goals in four of their seven competitive games outside Turin!
