Lille vs Paris Saint-Germain 15/04/19

15 April 2019

Second-placed Lille and Ligue 1 toppers Paris Saint-Germain go toe-to-toe at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy as the hosts desperately hope to snap a seven-game losing streak against PSG across all competitions.

The hosts have endured mixed fortunes over the past two months, securing four wins in their last eight Ligue 1 outings (W4, D3, L1). Notably, just one of four of their victories in that period has arrived at home while three of those successes saw them outplaying their opponents to nil. For Lille, goals have been in short supply in their last three L1 home outings, with all three producing under 1.5 goals. Furthermore, Les Dogues’ lack of inspiration in the final third accompanied by their stubborn defensive displays has seen seven of their previous eight L1 games featuring under 2.5 goals. The main worry for Christophe Galtier at this moment is Lille’s poor attacking output, with his men scoring 2+ match goals only twice in their last nine competitive clashes.

Meanwhile, the Parisians have wasted the opportunity to celebrate the L1 title in front of the home crowd thanks to an unexpected 2-2 draw with Strasbourg last time out. Authors of a remarkable league campaign, the visitors boast an almost perfect L1 road record (W11, D1, L1) having racked up a four-game L1 away winning run ahead of this fixture. What’s more, the reigning holders have pulled off four victories on their last four visits to this venue, with three of those wins ended with the same 1-0 scoreline. Additionally, four of PSG’s previous five away triumphs across all competitions have seen them beating their rivals to nil, which suggest that Unai Emery’s men could prevent the hosts from scoring should they wrap up all three points here.
