Fiorentina vs Sassuolo 30/04/19

30 April 2019

Winless in Serie A since mid-February, Fiorentina come face-to-face with Sassuolo at the Stadio Artemio Franchi hoping to post their elusive first SA home triumph in 2019.

Established themselves as SA ‘draw specialists,’ the hosts have played out more draws than any other side in the Italian top tier this term (16) with six of their seven league home games in 2019 ending without a winner (D6, L1). For Fiorentina, goals have been in short supply, as the Viola failed to find the net in both of their last SA home outings while scoring precisely one goal per match in the two preceding. Interestingly though, ten of Fiorentina’s last 12 competitive clashes have featured goals on both ends, with eight of those games producing over 2.5 goals. Judging on the previous five H2H meetings between these two in Florence, this showdown promises entertainment, as four of their last five H2Hs here have produced at least three goals.

Although unbeaten in their last four SA fixtures, the visitors come into this encounter after playing out three consecutive draws (W1, D3), with two of those stalemates coming away from home. While Fiorentina struggled at home, the Neroverdi have been suffering on the road in 2019, failing to pick up all three points on all seven of their league road trips since the turn of the year (D4, L3). In that period, Roberto De Zerbi’s men have managed just one clean sheet while scoring over 1.5 match goals barely once in the process. Interestingly, all three of Sassuolo’s SA home triumphs have ended with the identical 2-0 scoreline, with two of those wins coming against teams sitting below them in the table.
