Brazil vs Venezuela 19/06/19

19 June 2019

Brazil and Venezuela will face-off at the Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador in contrasting circumstances.

The host nation pulled off a commanding 3-0 win over Bolivia in the opening match of the tournament thanks to stunning second-half performance, and they seem to be on the verge of advancing to the knockout stage. The Seleção are on a run of 11 games without a loss (W10, D1), and last weekend’s success was their third straight ‘win to nil.’ Tite’s men seem to have rediscovered their ‘killer instinct’ in front of the rival’s goal lately. They’ve gone from four consecutive contests in which they’ve scored precisely one goal per match to four successive games in which they’ve netted two or more goals. Brazil will now look to post their fourth straight win over Venezuela and also extend their unbeaten run in H2Hs to seven games (W4, D2).

Meanwhile, 10-man Venezuela managed to hold Peru to a goalless draw in their first game at the tournament, which left them two points below Brazil in Group A. A promising thing for La Vinotinto is that they’ve kept a clean sheet twice in a row now after struggling to prevent their opponents from scoring in six games prior. However, it was also the sixth of their last eight games that Nicolás Maduro’s players scored one goal or less. It will be the eight time since 1975 that these two nations go head-to-head at Copa America, and Venezuela seem to have nothing to hope for judging on their disappointing record against Brazil at the tournament (D1, L6).
