Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid 29/09/19
29 September 2019
Saturday’s La Liga (LL) action concludes with a massive, heavyweight clash at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano with Atletico Madrid locking horns with the crosstown rivals Real Madrid.
After three consecutive wins at the beginning of the 2019/20 LL campaign, the hosts have failed to maintain momentum, picking up just one triumph in the last three league outings (W1, D1, L1). None of those three matches has witnessed both teams score, with Atletico winning and losing by the identical 2-0 scoreline in that sequence. Wanda Metropolitano has become Atletico’s stronghold over the past five months, with Los Colchoneros winning eight of ten LL games at this venue in that period (W8, D2). Notably, six of those triumphs have seen them win to nil, with Los Rojiblancos conceding first only once in the same span.
Meanwhile, with a record of four wins and two draws, the visitors sit at the top of the LL table. Los Blancos have won two of three LL trips this term (W2, D1), with two of those matches producing over 3.5 goals and seeing both teams score. Free-scoring Real found the net in all six LL fixtures this season, netting 2+ match goals four times in the process. Moreover, Los Merengues are unbeaten at this venue in their last four LL visits (W2, D2), with both of those triumphs seeing them score precisely three goals per match. A potential worry for Real could be that they’ve failed to keep a blank sheet in 12 of 14 LL trips since the turn of the year, allowing over 1.5 match goals five times though.
