Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Manchester City 28/12/19

28 December 2019

Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester City go head-to-head at Molineux for the Premier League (PL) upper-half-of-the-table encounter.

Fresh from a 2-1 away win over Norwich, Wolves will be looking for another success here that would propel them only two points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea. All three of their previous PL matches have produced over 2.5 goals and witnessed both sides score, with Wolves conceding the opening goal in the last two. Even though Nuno Espirito Santo’s men picked up a 2-0 win against City in the reverse fixture, they enter this showdown as underdogs, given that they’ve failed to secure a triumph in all three of their previous competitive H2Hs held here (D1, L2). Also, their inability to keep a clean sheet at home could be another setback here, as the Wanderers managed just two blank sheets in nine PL home outings this term.

As for the visitors, they have racked up four consecutive competitive triumphs following a 2-1 loss to Manchester United, winning both of their previous PL fixtures via a multiple-goal margin. Additionally, the reigning holders have netted over 2.5 match goals in all of those four games, finding the net in the opening 35 minutes on each of those occasions. What’s more, the Citizens have won four of their last five competitive road trips (W4, D1), scoring two or more goals in each of those clashes. But, Pep Guardiola has yet to fix City’s defensive problems, with his players shipping at least one goal in six of their last seven competitive away matches.
