Borussia Dortmund vs Paris Saint-Germain 19/02/20

19 February 2020

Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain will face off in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League (CL) last-16 tie at the Signal Iduna Park this midweek.

None of Dortmund’s six competitive matches in the new calendar year has ended in a draw (W4, L2), as they go into this clash on the back of a 4-0 demolition of Eintracht Frankfurt. All six of those fixtures have seen a lot of action, with each witnessing over 3.5 match goals and at least three second-half goals. Also, the Signal Iduna Park has been a fortress Dortmund fans have hoped for this season. Indeed, Lucien Favre’s men have yet to lose at home this campaign in all competitions (W11, D4), with 54.55% (six) of those wins yielding a margin of at least three goals. That’s, however, a sharp contrast to Dortmund’s recent home record in Europe (W5, D3, L), although two of those successes arrived this season. ‘Die Borussen’ also boast a decent home record against the French visitors, having won five of their last ten such fixtures (D3, L2).

Meanwhile, the visitors travel to Germany on the back of a 4-4 away draw with Amiens that has seen PSG extend their unbeaten run in all competitions to 23 games (W20, D3). Impressively, 11 of those successes have been accompanied by a clean sheet, with 16 yielding a multiple-goal margin. The reigning Ligue 1 holders have reached the knockout stages as the winners of Group A, with a record of five wins and a draw, boasting an intimidating +15 goal difference (GF: 17, GA:2). Indeed, Thomas Tuchel’s men have kept a clean sheet in all but one of their six group stage matches, with both goals conceded coming in a 2-2 away draw with Real Madrid. Additionally, the Parisians had won four consecutive CL away games before the abovementioned stalemate with Real.
