United States vs England 06/03/20

6 March 2020

The United States W will look to extend their unbeaten run against England W to four games (W2, D1) when the two nations lock horns in the SheBelieves Cup at Exploria Stadium this week.

The United States have established themselves as a force to be reckoned with over the past 13 months, winning 25 of 28 matches during that period (D3), including the last seven. Impressively, six of their previous victories have all yielded at least a three-goal margin and a clean sheet, with the ‘Stars and Stripes’ scoring over 1.5 second-half goals in each. Notably, the ‘US Women’s Team’ have also won all nine of their previous encounters with European nations, netting 2+ goals in each and keeping a clean sheet in six. They are now likely to confirm their dominance against a side they’ve lost to only once in their eight H2Hs since the turn of the new millennium (W6, D1).

Meanwhile, although the ‘Three Lionesses’ enter this match on the back of a 3-2 win over the Czech Republic, they are not having the best of times. Indeed, they’ve secured just two triumphs in their last eight outings (D1, L5), conceding over 1.5 goals on seven of those occasions. In fact, each of their five defeats during that stretch has produced the identical 2-1 scoreline, with England conceding the opening goal in four. That seems like a paradox, considering the majority of England’s good work in the recent period came in the first 45 minutes. Far more dangerous in the first half of play, Phil Neville’s players have scored 66.67% (12) of their last 18 goals before halftime.
