Paderbron vs Borussia Dortmund 01/06/20

01 Jun 2020

Dead-last Paderborn welcome second-placed Borussia Dortmund to the Benteler Arena desperate to post their first-ever win in their Bundesliga (BL) H2Hs (D2, L1).

The hosts enter this round on a run of nine consecutive league matches without a win (D4, L5), with the last three all witnessing under 2.5 goals and the identical 0-0 second-half scoreline. Sitting nine points adrift of the safe zone, Paderborn desperately need to start picking up some points, but four defeats in their five previous top-flight home fixtures can’t encourage the home fans. Yet, the Benteler Arena has been a venue of entertainment, with six of Paderborn’s last eight BL games here seeing over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet. Conceding the opening goal would be a massive blow to Paderborn’s hopes of avoiding defeat here, as they managed just two draws from nine BL home games in which they’ve shipped the opener (L7).

On the other hand, a narrow 1-0 home defeat to Bayern Munich last time out has brought Dortmund’s six-game winning BL run to a halt and has extended the gap between the sides to seven points. Away from home, ‘Die Borussen’ have secured four wins in their five previous league matches (L1), with 63.64% (14) of the 22 goals (scored-conceded) across those clashes coming in the second half of play. In turn, Lucien Favre’s men have notched up the majority of their BL away goals after the halftime break, racking up 62% (18) of their 29 league goals scored on the road in the second 45 minutes of action. Notably, free-scoring Dortmund have netted over 1.5 goals in all but one of their last eight league trips.
