Manchester City vs Burnley 23/06/20

23 June 2020

Manchester City and Burnley go head-to-head at the Etihad Stadium, with the home side looking to stretch their unbeaten run in their Premier League (PL) H2Hs to eight games (W6, D1).

Manchester City enter this round on the back of a 3-0 demolition of Arsenal and take confidence from five consecutive wins in competitive home H2Hs and a current run of six PL home fixtures without a loss (W5, D1). At home, the Sky Blues have played four consecutive competitive games without both teams finding the back of the net (W3, L1), with the winner on the day across those matches continually finding the opening goal in the first half of play. As the league’s highest-scoring team (2.44 goals on average), Pep Guardiola’s men have netted over 1.5 goals in each of their last six PL home games, with 71.43% of their goals scored across those clashes coming after the halftime break (10/14).

Meanwhile, the visitors were enjoying a seven-game unbeaten league run (W4, D3) before the coronavirus pandemic curtailed their momentum. While each of their four wins during the abovementioned run saw the Clarets score over 1.5 goals, all of their three draws in the same period have featured under 2.5 total goals. Away from home in the league, just one of Burnley’s last ten matches has produced a draw (W4, L4), with seven of those results (win/loss) seeing the winner on the day keep a blank sheet. But, since they’ve drawn a blank in three of their last five PL road trips and also failed to find the net in three of their four previous competitive trips to the Etihad, Sean Dyche’s men may find it difficult to get on the scoresheet here.
