Melbourne Victory vs Brisbane Roar 29/07/30

29 July 2020

Melbourne Victory and Brisbane Roar will lock horns at the AAMI Park in what could be high-scoring Australia A-League contest. Indeed, five of their last six top-flight H2Hs have produced over 2.5 goals, with four seeing both teams hit the net.

The hosts take the field after losing three straight league matches, all of which saw them concede at least once in both halves. Also, a lack of attacking quality is the reason why only one side scored fewer league home goals than Melbourne (13) so far, with just 38.46% (five) of them arriving in the first half. Interestingly, though, three of Victory’s last five top-flight goals scored came either inside the opening or closing ten minutes of play. Yet, all three of Melbourne’s previous A-League home fixtures have seen over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet (W1, L2), which has been true in three of their last five top-flight H2Hs held at this venue (W3, D1, L1).

Meanwhile, a narrow 1-0 home loss to Adelaide United last time out now means that seven of Brisbane’s ten previous A-League matches have yielded that exact scoreline (W4, L3). Indeed, immense problems in the final third have seen Brisbane bag under 1.5 goals in nine of 13 league outings this calendar year, with four of their last five goals scored coming before the break. Additionally, the ‘Roar’ remain the only team in this division yet to smash a 10-goal barrier away from home (eight), having scored a league-low one first-half goal in 11 trips this season. That disappointing record could face an extension, given that Warren Moon’s men scored just twice in their last three top-flight clashes against Victory (L3).
