Bordeaux vs Nantes 22/08/20
22 August 2020
The 2020/21 Ligue 1 season gets underway this week, as Bordeaux welcome Nantes to the Matmut Atlantique in the curtain-raiser.
It’s been a disappointing calendar year for ‘Les Girondins,’ who have picked up just two wins from nine top-flight matches since the calendar flipped (D5, L2). Curiously, all six of Bordeaux’s final league games in 2019/20 saw both teams score, with three producing over 2.5 goals. But, the hosts have failed to win in all four of their Ligue 1 home outings in 2020 (D3, L1), scoring under 1.5 goals on three of those occasions. Jean-Louis Gasset’s team must be confident of kick-starting their home campaign now, though, as they take on a side they’ve beaten in five of their previous six Ligue 1 H2Hs held at this venue (D1). Notably, four of those wins were accompanied by a clean sheet, with three producing a full-time margin of at least two goals.
Meanwhile, six of Nantes’ last eight Ligue 1 fixtures have ended separating the sides by under 1.5 goals, with the visitors losing five (W1, D2). High scoring has been a theme for ‘La Maison Jaune’ away from home this calendar year, as three of their five league trips since the turn of 2020 have seen over 3.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet, with Christian Gourcuff’s side scoring over 1.5 goals four times along the way. However, Nantes’ main problem last season was the inability to bounce back after conceding the opening goal – they lost five of six applicable Ligue 1 matches (D1).
