Sydney vs Perth Glory 26/08/20

26 August 2020

Bankwest Stadium is the venue as Sydney FC take on Perth Glory in the A-League semi-final decider.

Having finished top of the table during the regular season, the hosts qualified directly for the semi-finals. However, a lackadaisical attitude has seen Sydney lose three of five of their previous A-League fixtures (D2), netting under 1.5 goals on all of those occasions. Despite picking up just one win from their last five competitive home matches (D2, L2), the ‘Sky Blues’ have been an exciting team to watch. Indeed, four of those five clashes have seen over 2.5 goals and both sides on the scoresheet, with the majority (85.71%) of the goals scored/conceded across those games arriving in the second half of play (12/14). Steve Corica’s men are the proverbial favorites to reach the final after winning six of their last seven top-flight H2Hs held in the Sydney region (D1).

Meanwhile, the visitors, who have drawn a blank in all but one of those previous seven trips to Sydney, have endured mixed fortunes in their last seven league outings (W3, L3). Curiously, while two of those three victories yielded the identical 1-0 scoreline, all four of Perth’s defeats during that seven-game sequence saw them concede over 1.5 goals. Away from home in all competitions, Tony Popovic’s players have overseen a slight upturn in results, going from six consecutive trips without a win (D3, L3) to back-to-back triumphs. Perth’s away games have been notably tight this calendar year, though, with seven of nine ending separating the sides by under 1.5 goals.
