Eibar vs Celta Vigo 12/09/20

12 September 2020

Eibar’s La Liga action gets underway this weekend as they welcome Celta Vigo to the Estadio Municipal de Ipurua.

The hosts have run out winners in three of their previous four top-flight H2Hs held at this venue (L1). Interestingly, each of those results (wins/loss) has seen the winner on the day keep a clean sheet, which was the case in 62.5% of Eibar’s La Liga home outcomes last season (W8, L8). It’s also worth noting that none of Eibar’s home league matches from the first part of 2019/20 had ended in a draw (W4, L5), with six of those nine games seeing the winning side shut out the other one. Despite failing to impress at home lately, ‘Los Armeros’ sure know how to put up a fight, considering five of their last seven La Liga home encounters have ended separating the sides by under 1.5 goals (W2, D2, L3).

As for the visitors, they only narrowly avoided relegation last season, finishing just a single point clear of 18th-placed Leganes. In fact, Celta failed to pick up a win in closing seven La Liga fixtures of 2019/20 (D4, L3). Curiously, six of those matches saw both teams get on the scoresheet, with four featuring over 2.5 goals. For ‘Célticos,’ goals have been at a premium on the road this calendar year. They have drawn a blank in five of ten top-flight trips since the turn of 2020, scoring precisely once per game in four of the other five! Curiously, four of six goals they managed to score across those fixtures arrived in the opening ten minutes of either first or the second half.
