Oberneuland vs Borussia Mönchengladbach 12/09/20

12 September 2020

Oberneuland and Borussia Mönchengladbach will lock horns at Borussia-Park in the DFB Pokal round of 64, which is going to be their first-ever meeting.

Oberneuland finished top of the Oberliga Bremen last season, having won 17 of 19 fixtures in the division before the coronavirus outbreak curtailed the campaign (L2). Impressively, Günter Hermann’s men netted an average of 3.89 goals per match, finishing the season with whopping 74 goals under their belt. Simultaneously, they conceded the division low 18 goals, on an average of 0.94 per game. But, Oberneuland’s start to life in the Regionalliga Nord brought a 2-0 home loss to Havelse last weekend, with both of those goals coming beyond the hour mark. Notably, going back to November 2018, none of their 38 games in various competitions has ended in a draw (W33, L5)!

Meanwhile, in an echo of Oberneuland’s habit, just one of Mönchengladbach’s 14 matches since the restart has ended in a draw, friendlies included (W9, D1, L4). The odds-on favorites to advance to the next round, ‘Die Fohlen’ have won all three of their previous competitive matches, netting an average of 2.66 goals across those successes. Interestingly, six of their eight competitive results (wins/losses) since the resumption of football have seen the winner on the day fail to keep a blank sheet. Going back to March, the Borussia-Park has been a venue of entertainment, as all six competitive games held here have produced over 2.5 goals, with five seeing both teams score.
