Liverpool vs Arsenal 29/09/20

29 September 2020

Liverpool entertain Arsenal at Anfield in a massive, heavyweight Premier League clash, with both sides looking to maintain a 100% start to their respective league campaigns.

After pulling off a tight 4-3 home win over newly-promoted Leeds United on Matchday 1, the reigning champions secured a comfortable 2-0 away win over Chelsea last time out to bring their winning Premier League run to four, 2019/21 included. Jurgen Klopp’s men are betting favorites ahead of the kick-off, having avoided defeat in all seven of their previous top-flight H2Hs held at this venue (W5, D2), scoring an average of 3.57 goals across those clashes. Indeed, the ‘Reds’ have netted over 2.5 goals in six of those seven encounters, which was the case in 47.37% of their Premier League home games back last season (9/19). Anfield has been a fortress over the past few years, as Liverpool’s last Premier League loss here dates back to April 2017, with Klopp’s side finishing the 2019/20 campaign with an intimidating home record of W18, D1.

Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta’s men seem to have managed to build on two consecutive domestic titles, starting the new league season with back-to-back wins, both of which saw them find the net in both halves. Indeed, a comfortable 3-0 away win over newly-promoted Fulham on Matchday 1 now means that none of Arsenal’s previous seven Premier League trips have ended in a draw (W3, L4). Curiously, five of those seven results (wins/losses) have seen the winner on the day keep a blank sheet. However, the ‘Gunners’ failed to impress on the road back in 2019/20, picking up just four wins (21.05%) out of 19 league trips, mainly thanks to a genuine lack of goals. In fact, the London side finished the previous league campaign lamenting a miserable average of 1.05 goals scored per Premier League trip.
