Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad go head-to-head at the Wanda Metropolitano on the final matchday of the 2019/20 La Liga campaign, as the traveling side look to avoid defeat to seal a place in the next season’s Europa League group stage.
The hosts enter the round on the back of back-to-back ‘to nil’ wins and are enjoying an impressive 15-game unbeaten run in La Liga (W9, D6). As expected, the Wanda Metropolitano has proved to be a fortress for yet another season, with Atletico losing just once in 18 league home games this term (W12, D5). Los Colchoneros have based their success on an airtight defense that has conceded fewer home goals than any other La Liga side (ten), keeping a clean sheet in over a half (55.56%) of their top-flight home outings this campaign (10/18). Diego Simeone’s men look more than capable of improving that record now after shutting out Real Sociedad in five of their last six top-flight H2Hs held at this stadium (W6).
Meanwhile, the visitors have suffered a dip in form since the resumption of football in June, picking up only two wins from ten La Liga matches post restart (D3, L5). Uncharacteristically harmless in the final third, La Real have netted under 1.5 goals in seven of their last ten league games, with nine of the ten goals they scored across those clashes coming after the break. Another potential worry for Imanol Alguacil ahead of the kick-off is Real Sociedad’s inability to get up after conceding the opening goal. The Basque side lost five of six La Liga trips in which they’ve shipped the opener (D1).
