The two sides that have had identical returns from their opening three Bundesliga fixtures (W2, D1) go head-to-head at the WWK Arena as Augsburg encounter RB Leipzig.
Augsburg had secured back-to-back league wins via a two-goal margin before being held to a goalless away draw to Wolfsburg last time out. Interestingly, both of their Bundesliga wins this term saw the ‘Fuggerstädter’ find the opening goal in the 40th minute of play and score at least once more after the half-time. A 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund on Matchday 2 represents Augsburg’s sole Bundesliga home success going back to February 15 (W1, D3, L4), as well as one of just two clean sheets they managed across that eight-game sequence. A genuine lack of firepower has also been an issue, given that Heiko Herrlich’s men could only score over 1.5 match goals in two of those eight fixtures.
Meanwhile, except for a 1-1 away draw with Bayer Leverkusen on Matchday 2, the visitors have been quite impressive at the beginning of the season, beating Mainz 3-1 in the curtain-raiser and dismantling Schalke 4-0 last time out. Quick out of the blocks, ‘Die Roten Bullen’ have netted a league-high five first-half goals so far, finding the back of the net inside the opening 35 minutes of play in all three of their Bundesliga outings. Away from home in the German top-flight, Julian Nagelsmann’s men are unbeaten in eight games in a row, last season included (W5, D3), preserving a blank sheet on five of those occasions.
