Rocked by horror Champions League elimination to Liverpool, Barcelona return to La Liga action as they welcome Getafe to Camp Nou this weekend.
A shock 4-0 away loss to Liverpool was Barca’s second consecutive across all competitions, and also the second in which they’ve failed to find the net. However, the hosts have racked up an eight-game home winning run across the competitions, beating their rivals to nil five times along the way. In the same period, Ernesto Valverde’s men have scored 2+ match goals on seven occasions, with 70% of those goals coming after the halftime break (14 of 20). The Blaugrana have scored more home goals than any other side in the Spanish top tier (49), netting over 1.5 match goals in 15 of 18 LL home outings this term. Even though they’ve already claimed their second successive LL title, the Catalans are eager to stretch their unbeaten home run against Getafe to 16 competitive games (W12, D4).
Meanwhile, the visitors surprisingly sit fourth in the table and seem to be on the verge of securing a miraculous Champions League promotion. But, Getafe’s indifferent form in the recent period (W2, D2, L1) could worry Pepe Bordalás, especially considering the fact his players have failed to wrap up three points on their last four LL road trips (D3, L1). Far more comfortable at home, Los Azulones have grabbed only 39.66% of their total LL points on the road (23 of 58), with just four of their 15 LL wins coming away from the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez. In spite of the fact they boast LL’s second-best defensive record (31 goals conceded), El Geta have failed to preserve a clean slate on 15 of 18 LL road trips, which could be their biggest problem ahead of this clash.
