Bayer Leverkusen will look to build on a promising start to the new Bundesliga (BL) season when they face off TSG Hoffenheim at the BayArena this weekend. Interestingly, the last three H2H meetings between these two sides have ended with the same 4-1 scoreline – two in Hoffenheim’s favor (W2, L1).
The hosts have secured back-to-back wins at the beginning of the new BL campaign to make a flying start to the season. Both of Leverkusen’s league wins this term have seen them score precisely three goals and concede at least one. A 3-2 home win over the returnees, Paderborn, means the Company XI are now unbeaten in their last four BL home outings (W3, D1). All six of Bayer’s BL home wins since the turn of the year has been accompanied by at least two goals in their rivals’ net, with half of them ending with the same 2-0 scoreline in Bayer’s favor. However, Peter Bosz’s men have failed to beat Hoffenheim in their last three H2Hs here (D1, L2) although none of those meetings has been short of entertainment. All of those clashes have produced over 2.5 goals with two of them seeing both teams score.
Meanwhile, the visitors have bounced back after a narrow 1-0 away loss to Eintracht Frankfurt in the BL curtain-raiser, securing a 3-2 home win over Werder Bremen last time out. Although Die Kraichgauer endured mixed fortunes when away from home in 2019 (W3, D4, L3), those games have rarely been short of entertainment. Six of Hoffenheim’s ten BL trips since the turn of the year have featured over 3.5 goals and seen both teams score, while two of the remaining four ended with the same 1-1 scoreline. With an average of 4.35 goals per match, Hoffenheim’s away BL games were by far the most prolific ones in the German top tier last season.
