Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund go head-to-head for a massive Bundesliga (BL) showdown at the Allianz Arena after registering successes in their respective midweek’s Champions League matches.
A disastrous 5-1 thumping at the hands of Eintracht Frankfurt last weekend saw the Bavarians sack Niko Kovac, and after that, pull off a 2-0 home win over Olympiacos to seal a place in the Champions League knockout stage. Lagging one point behind the BVB, the reigning BL holders have struggled to impress at home this term (W3, D1, L1), keeping a clean sheet only once across five BL home fixtures. Still, 15 of a total of 25 BL goals the Reds have scored so far have come on home soil, with Robert Lewandowski and Co. bagging at least one goal in nine of ten halves of the BL home action played to date. Also, Bayern have won each of their previous five home H2Hs with Dortmund, scoring four or more goals in the last four.
Meanwhile, encouraged by a stunning 3-2 comeback win over Inter Milan, the visitors will be looking to extend their unbeaten BL run to eight games (W3, D4). But, to do that, ‘Die Borussen’ will have to find a way to overcome a dreadful away form that has seen them win just one of five BL trips this term (W1, D3, L1). While both of Dortmund’s BL away results (win/loss) ended with the identical 3-1 scoreline, two of their three draws have come via the same 2-2 scoreline. Also, before playing out a goalless draw with Schalke 04, Lucien Favre’s men have shipped at least one goal in all eight halves of the BL away action played this season. Another potential worry for the traveling side is that they’ve netted just eight of their total 23 BL goals on the road (34%).
