Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig go head-to-head at the Allianz Arena in a massive Bundesliga (BL) showdown this weekend, as the two sides battle it out for the top spot.
The hosts finished the last calendar year with a bang and kicked off the new one in the same fashion, putting together six consecutive league wins in that period to go top of the table. Notably, all of those successes have yielded a margin of multiple goals, with five of them seeing the Bavarians score over 1.5 second-half goals. In turn, 67% (22) of the 33 Bayern’s home goals scored came after the break, with Hansi Flick’s men finding the net at least once in the final 15 minutes of home action played in five of ten BL home fixtures so far this season. That’s a sharp contrast to Bayern’s previous top-flight home H2Hs with Leipzig. Indeed, the reigning BL holders have won all three of such H2Hs, with five of six goals they’ve bagged across those clashes arriving in the first half.
Meanwhile, the visitors have suffered a dip in form recently, failing to pick up a win in their last three competitive matches (D1, L2). A 2-0 away defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt a fortnight ago, which saw Leipzig draw a blank in the top flight for the first time this season, also brought their four-game unbeaten BL away run to a halt (W3, D1). Notably, before the abovementioned failure, ‘Die Roten Bullen’ had bagged three goals or more in seven of nine league road trips prior. Also, quick-start Leipzig have scored at least once in the opening 15 minutes of play in three of ten BL away fixtures this season, while shutting out their opponents in the same interval in all ten.
