Bayern Munich lost to TSG Hoffenheim the last time these sides met at the Allianz Arena and will be looking to return the favor when they lock horns in the third round of the DFB Pokal this midweek.
The abovementioned defeat has been Bayern’s only reverse in their previous 12 competitive home H2Hs with Hoffenheim (W9, D2, L1), with each of their nine previous wins in such matchups seeing them put two goals or more past their visitors. The hosts have hit the ground running in all competitions ahead of the winter break and have refused to slow down ever since. In fact, they’ve won all seven of their last competitive fixtures, with each of those triumphs yielding a multiple-goal margin. Free-scoring Bayern have opened the scoring in six of the abovementioned seven wins, failing to bag over 2.5 goals only once in the process. What’s more, they’ve picked up seven victories in their last eight competitive home outings (L1), beating their opponents by a margin of two goals or more six times along the way.
As for the visitors, they’ve won both of their previous competitive matches, scoring 2+ goals apiece while conceding one in total to make it four wins out of the last five fixtures (L1). Hoffenheim’s run of form is in line with their recent successes when away from home, as they’ve avoided defeat in all but one of their past nine road trips (W6, D2, L1). All six of their wins during that period witnessed ‘Die Kraichgauer’ score over 1.5 goals, with two of them seeing Alfred Schreuder’s side come from behind to seal three points, including a victory over Bayern. Another encouragement for the traveling fans is that Hoffenheim have kept a clean sheet in three of their last five trips, conceding over 1.5 goals once in the other two though.
