Benfica vs Manchester United 19/10/2017

Benfica - Manchester United
October 19, 2017 1:02 am

Benfica will need to regroup fast following a 5-0 spanking at Basel last time out, while visitors Man Utd will be looking to consolidate their Group A top spot.
United have prevailed in six of the clubs’ nine meetings, while Benfica have won just once, a 2-1 in Lisbon in December 2005. That result ultimately eliminated Sir Alex Ferguson’s team from the group stage.
United, though, have since racked up a five-match unbeaten run in Portugal. Their overall record in Portugal is W6 D2 L4. They won’t have Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini in the middle of the park, but coped reasonably well without them in the goalless draw against Liverpool last weekend.
The only connection between these two clubs will be defender Victor Lindelof, who joined over the summer. The Swede made 48 first-team league appearances over five years with the Portuguese club.
For Jose Mourinho, it is also a return to the Portuguese capital, where he managed the Eagles in the 2000/01 season. It wasn’t a happy stay as he resigned in December after the club president refused to extend his contract.
