They have more pressing issues to deal with, as after losing their last two encounters against Milan in Serie A, they could suffer three straight defeats in the competition for the first time since 2004. But as the second-best home side in Serie A with 24 points from ten matches (W8, L2), ‘I Nerazzurri’ will be out to prove a 3-0 demolition of their city rivals in January’s Supercoppa Italiana showpiece was no fluke. Simone Inzaghi’s men received a confidence boost in midweek Coppa Italia action as they overcame high-flying Atalanta 1-0 at home.

In stark contrast to their opposition’s decent patch, AC Milan found themselves on the receiving end of a 5-2 scoreline against bottom-half Sassuolo last weekend, stretching their winless run in all competitions to six matches (D2, L4). Since a 2-1 win at Salernitana at the turn of the year, the reigning Serie A holders have gone winless in four league games (D2, L2) and could make it five in a row for the first time since 2017. While they’re just nominal visitors here, ‘I Rossoneri’ have picked up only one triumph in their last five away league outings (D2, L2). But after a 3-2 win in the reverse fixture in September, Milan could register their first top-flight double over Inter since 2010/11.
